About Me

About

Hunter Lee lives  in Jackson and is the founder of Flourish JH, which offers one-on-one coaching services as well as mindfulness and self-compassion workshops. He is an International Coaching Federation member coach, a RESET trained instructor, graduate of the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, and graduate of Naropa University with a degree in contemplative psychology. His coaching and workshops help clients develop resilience, discover inner resources and flourish in the face of challenges and difficulty.  

What is self-compassion?
 

Based in the Buddhist tradition, self-compassion was more recently defined and developed by Drs. Kristin Neff and Chris Germer. In over a 1000 studies to date, it has proven to be a powerful resource. Practicing self-compassion reduces negative states like anxiety, depression and stress while increasing positive states like optimism, life-satisfaction and joy. Furthermore it builds resilience and coping skills while fostering healthy motivation.

Self-Compassion has three main components:

  1. Mindfulness: to be aware of and validate that we are experiencing some kind of difficulty. 

  2. Common Humanity: an acknowledgement that we are not alone. Difficulty and setbacks are part of being human. 

  3. Self-Kindness: Showing up to ourselves the same way we would for a loved one by offering ourselves kindness and care.

Self-Compassion Coaching

Our society and cultural conditioning can brand self-compassion as weakness, softness or even something that will get in the way of our success. The research, however, shows that self-compassion is one of the greatest sources of strength and inner resilience we can learn to wield. It contributes in a meaningful way to our overall well-being and is one of the best strategies for dealing with the difficulties inherent in being human.

Growing up can be hard. Plain and simple. Hunter's work with adolescents focuses on developing the inner resources teens need to show up for themselves when things get tough. Working together, clients build resilience, foster well-being and promote healthy sources of motivation to flourish through school, sports and life.
